Are You Growing Weary in Battle? Or, Faint in the Race?

By Darlene Osborne, Publisher

darlene@christianmagazine.org

Things aren’t going the way you think they should. You haven’t received that healing you’ve been praying for now for weeks. You haven’t received a promotion at your workplace in years. Your emotions could use an overhaul. Your relationships are all lacking. Even your pastor doesn’t seem to have an inkling of what’s going on in your life. No spiritual nourishment can be found anywhere. So, you’ve had it. You’re just about ready to give up, abandon ship, throw in the towel, call it a day! Just ever how you want to put it, you are ready to quit.

Well, my weary friend, the devil wants nothing more than for you to do just that. Lay down and give up. He wants you to surrender. Then he will have you right where he wants you. Alone, and hopeless. So don’t do it. Don’t surrender. I am here to tell you, if you’re at a stand off with the devil, as long as you hang in there and don’t give up, you will be the winner. Do not faint. The last one standing wins so you must endure to the end.

Galatians 6:9 says this,

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

Mark 13:13b says,

"…but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."

Endurance is a key factor to winning any battle. It is also a key factor in winning any race. Don’t allow the devil to rob you of your victory by giving in just short of the finish line. You must endure. Keep running until you finish the race. Galatians 5:7 says

"Ye did run well; who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth?"

The devil is the one that does the hindering. (1st Thessalonians 2:18) He will throw things at you to try and stop you from finishing the race. Before you get to the finish line he will try to wrestle you to the ground.

We Wrestle Not Against Flesh and Blood

But Against the Devil and His Cohorts

Ephesians 6:12 says it like this,

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places

God is always ready and willing to meet any need. The devil, however, is always ready and willing to hinder us from receiving what we need. And believe me, he will wrestle you for it. Are you a good wrestler? Maybe you’ve never wrestled a day in your life in the natural but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a good wrestler in the spiritual realm. If you’re in a wrestling match with the devil you can pin him down, spiritually speaking of course, and win using the Word of God. Like I’ve said before, when he tells you that you’ll never be healed quote the scripture that says—by His stripes I am already healed. (1st Peter 2:24) When he tells you that you won’t be able to pay your bills this month, say—and my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Each time he gives you a bad report, counter attack him with something positive from the Word of God concerning your need.

You Can Knock the Devil Out

With the Word of God

One thing I have learned is never to quit in the heat of a battle. While the blood, sweat, and tears are flying it’s hard to see who is actually winning the fight. Yeah, the devil may throw some good punches during a fight, but hey, who says they will connect. We don’t have to stand there and allow him to beat us up. Instead, we can give him a knock out punch right between his eyes using the Word of God. All we need is one good punch—a powerful scripture— to connect and he’s going down for the count!

I remember years ago, when I was in an intense fight with the devil, I spoke one simple scripture to him and boy did it connect. Immediately, I felt him pull back in the spiritual realm. Yes, you can feel those things if you have the Holy Ghost. I went on to win the war he was trying to rage against me emotionally with anxiety attacks. He just couldn’t stand up against the Word of God. For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)

We Have Power

Luke 10:19 tells us that Jesus gave us power over all the power of the enemy. So if you’re running out of steam spiritually you may be suffering from a power outage. You need to get plugged back into the power source, which is the Word of God. Start reading and quoting what the Bible says about your situation. And don’t ever try to fight the battle in your own strength. Speak God’s Word and allow it to work for you. Instead of running from the devil, turn around on him and make him run from you awhile.

(Special note: If for some reason you can't speak out loud, just read the Word and mediate on what you’re reading. It works the same way)

In closing, I just want to point out that the devil’s a loser. He knows it, God knows it, I know it, and now you know it! So no matter how weary or faint you think you are, you are more than a conqueror through Christ. (Romans 8:37) When you’re at your weakest you’re still stronger than the devil.

Remember…

You may be facing problems right now, but I know if you trust God He will deliver you out of them all! (2nd Timothy 3:11)

As a Child of God, you can be triumphant in Christ ( 2nd Corinthians 2:14)

Don’t grow weary in battle; arise with Holy Ghost fury against the devil and his cohorts. Fight the good fight of faith.
